Obituary!

Sunday, December 10th, 2006

Today I am surprised to see in the papers the death of James Ah Chin aged 37. Do not know whether he is known to all of you but he was rather popular at school especially in basket ball. He was playing in Attila, and was fond of sports. He was doing some footing on Signal mountain when the unexpected happened. He left two sons under the age of 10 and a widow.

Incendie in St Pierre!

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

House on fire killing three kids in St. Pierre set the small village “en emoi”. After the father’s confession where he admitted having set the fire when his kids were asleep, a new statement came to free the father of blame. The father claimed that the confession was obtained after police tortured him, and showed to the court the marks on his back. The small girl who survived the fire and is in ICU revealed to her mother than the candle which was lighting the room fell on the bed sheet. The girl mistook a can of kerosene for water spread the fire which claimed the life of her brothers and sisters.

The incident rose much emotion as the quantity of families living in poverty  and the need to alleviate them. Shortly after the news about the precarious condition the family has been living in, radio echoed talk shows about the quality of of life of poor families.

Snow in Reunion island

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

After a windy and chilling weekend and start of the week, it has now started to get milder. Even my shower sprinkled out a mild temperate water despite the thermostat was on hot. Reunion island witnessed a fall in snow on the track to La Fournaise. This is the second time since 2003 that snow fell on the sister island. Some inhabitants even thought of setting up a stand and selling snow to visitors.

Mini quake in mtius-part 2!

Saturday, September 2nd, 2006

There was a slight earth movement two days earlier. The shaking was felt by residents in B. Bassin and Plaine Verte. Observationists in Reunion island said that the epicentre was between Mauritius and Reunion. Graphomologist in Mauritius said that the “quake” would likely be the beginning of volcanic eruptions. The source and date of the eruption is unknown so far. Mauritius has a number of craters, and one of the renowned ones is known to be dormant for more than 20,000 years.

Happy holiday!

Monday, August 14th, 2006

Tomorrow is assumption day, but in the Mauritian slang, we call it “fete de la vierge”. This usually is open to interpretations, as diverse as we mauritians are open to the world. :p And it is a holiday.. yeahh!! Normal, bisin celebrer.. (censored!)
The Shah Rukh Khan concert which  was to be held on the 19th August is finally going to be cancelled following the stringent control at the Uk airport (after the attempted bombing on the 10th August 2006). Organisers wanted to import pyrotechnics works for a grandiose concert suited to the star’s reputation. Those who have already bought the tickets would be refunded and fans will have to wait to see their idol “en chair et en os”

Breaking news!

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

Peuhh!! Not again!! Just heard that a plot to blow up planes in flight from the UK to the US and commit “mass murder on an unimaginable scale” has been disrupted. What’s in the mind of those people??
According to BBC: “It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled in hand luggage on to as many as 10 aircraft”. Three US airlines are believed to have been targeted.

Where are we going??

Wedding!

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

Went to wedding on Saturday. Were three in all to meet there. Was first to reach there, and waited for the colleagues for 20 minutes. It was chilling, and i only wore a long sleeved shirt on a pair of jeans. After they arrived, we went inside, to see safran over. We greeted the groom and then went to dinner. A torrential rain greeted our dinner and some guests were wet.

We were not satisfied with the sept “carrie” as most of them were partially cooked. Even the ti puti was not cooked. So with stomach half empty, we went home. I calmed my gastric juice with some cakes i baked two days earlier and decided on the following day to cook either farata or ti puri. There was a problem. MOst of my endeavour to cook farata was plain. The farata was either not cooked or too white. So i decided to ask how to cook ti puri.

On Monday i was told how to prepare it. I was surprised to see that preparation is the same as for farata except that tipuri is to be cooked in oil.  Hopefully it will taste like tipuri and nothing else.
