And i thought it was only in dodo land that it is very hot. At midnight on Monday 11th, it was 37 deg. in Melbourne. Locals were unable to sleep and flocked to ice cream parlours and the beaches for some night swimming. Southern Australia remains high on risk on fire alert warnings. At 27 deg at night we are complaining about intense heat but when hearing about the situation in Aussie, we could not help but say to ourselves that we are still lucky. Tiredness and lack of sleep will accompany us for the remaining months of summer and for those who are enjoying cool air and good sleep, thumps up!

37 deg???
Tuesday, January 12th, 2010Summer already??
Tuesday, September 1st, 2009Some days back, it would seem that summer has already reached our shore. Was very hot and on top of that, there were the famous humming sounds near the ears and big red swollen bites on legs, arms and neck. On the way back home, we tuned on the radio, and the talk was inevitably H1n1. So after nth recommendations and stated facts by his guests, the presenter was saying that summer is yet to come and the meteorological station was forecasting a fall in temperature in the hours to come. Will the fall last 12 hours later? Stay tuned for the latest update, check sa!!! Hahaha!
10 deg!
Saturday, May 9th, 2009Just heard that lowest temp this winter is forecast to be10 deg. Winter should have already started but it seems that we are still in a transition period and the cold season would be later than expected. Surprisingly we had cold temperatures during the first few days of the month but lately the temperature has risen uncomfortably to decrease substantially at night. No wonder auspicious for flu spreading…
Heat, humidity and bites!
Thursday, January 22nd, 2009Very very hot!!! Not a breeze and a high humidity. Heard that the sea current around our coast has been hotter that those near the equator. No wonder, we witnessed the formation of cyclonic depressions near Rodrigues and in the Mozambique canal. Torrential rains and storms of these last two weeks have only brought a temporary heat quench. Now more than ever, the intense heat and the ubiquitous mosquitoes with their acrobatic swings around ears and some times in front of your eyes are ruining my sleep and are speeding up the ageing process.
Coupled with that, mud are obstructing the filters at water treatment plants and water is only flowing at half their usual volume. So in an attempt to retard the perspitation process after shower, we take the latter later at night. We should resign to that state of mind because late at night, the flow is even meagrer.
Any luckier on yr side?
Sea temperature!
Wednesday, January 7th, 2009Fish was found dead at Anse la Raie and Baie aux huitres. Initial sea water test reveals no abnormal chemical composition. Scientists at Albion experimental station collected the bodies for further test in view of the expansion of the number of dead bodies. Scientists may explain this phenomenon to lower oxygen level in the sea due to the rise of 2 deg in the sea temperature. Indeed not only has land temperature risen during the last month but also that of the sea. Apparently this has risen above 30 deg.
On another level, btw the price of dholl puri has decreased by MUR 1.00
Heat wave!
Saturday, January 19th, 2008It’s been very very hot lately. Yesterday, i woke up at 1.00 am because it was too hot. I simply can’t sleep. I went downstairs and switched on the television. There was a french film aired and without conviction i watched it till three. Needless to say, when i woke up at seven, my eyes were very sleepy and sored. But i had to go to work. I did not do much at work, except some filing. And after 3 hours of ‘hard work’, off home. After lunch, i dashed back to my bedroom where i dozed for one hour, feeling somehow energised by that somewhat one hour rest.
Heat waves in the mean time continue to radiate through the walls and the intense light reflected from panes and white walls. Wind, please blow!! Rain please fall!! Please hear a sinner’s prayers!! Damnit i have a headache now. What’s next?
