Thursday, June 28th, 2007

iphone.jpgIphone will be officially launched tomorrow night in the USA. The The Apple iPhone is not just a phone – it is a phone, music player, video player, internet device, and camera all in one. Steve Jobs has such confidence in the new iPhone that he said he wants to sell over 10 million of them. The phone is expected to come out in Europe in the fourth QTR and Asia in 2008 and it will be available exclusively on AT&T for $499 on a two-year contract for the 4GB version and $599 for the 8GB version.The phone has been so widely mediatised that as usual, before the launching of the product, there is already a queue outside the stores. Some unemployed even proposed to queue for USD 250 dollars. There are endless possibilities to make money in Uncle Sam’s land..

Inventory count!

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Tomorrow is inventory count. How i hate that word!!But as this is the end of the financial year, it has to be done. The count will start from 1630 and end till it’s over. Unlike other companies where on inventory day, stores are closed and there is no operation, this company will operate on that day!!!As usual. Enfin it’s the boss’s decision after all. He knows what he is doing after all. And it’s his company. So tomorrow, don’t know what time we will be leaving the battle field, with dust all over the faces and nostrils just like miners. Saturday re-enter the battle for a second count with the end time uncertain. But one thing for sure. On Saturday when it’s over, we will all be relieved. Hopefully there will not be a Sunday…

Appointment for visa!

Saturday, June 23rd, 2007

Saw in the papers lately that applicants for visa to France will henceforth need an appointment. As from the 25th June, the France ambassy will be receiving applicants as from eight to twelve, and will be scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays for visits to relatives, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays for business trips.

These appointments need to be done from a fixed line to a dedicated call number available  from eight in the morning to eight in the evening, and the call will be invoiced at Rs 15 per minute. These measures were taken in view to offer a better service to the public and to better manage the traffic at the visa service counter. The phone service is available as from Monday 18th June.

New shows!

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

This week MBC Channel 3 programmation has undergone some changes. As from Monday (that is yesterday), some new series have popped up. On Mondays, we will be having “surface”, on Tuesdays:”Dr House”, on Wednesdays:  4400″, on Thursdays: “friends”, on Fridays: 24, and on Saturdays: CSI.

Watched surface yesterday, saw and understood nothing. Everything under water. Dr House was however more understandable and watchable. Like the ‘frank’ parler and the show was somehow quite lively…

Rise of the silver surfer!

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

1163664.jpg4: rise of the silver surfer is finally out in the USA. The rise of the silver surfer is a sequel to the 2005 film Fantastc Four.

The film begins two years after the first, with Doctor Doom having spent two years trapped in a casket until being awakened by the Silver Surfer, promptly taking over Latveria once free. Doom desires to take the Surfer’s powers, having been reverted to his organic form after provoking and being attacked by the Silver Surfer.

As Reed Richards and Sue Storm prepare for their fourth wedding attempt, a mysterious, silver phenomenon streaks into Earth’s atmosphere from outer space, radiating cosmic energy that creates massive molecular fluctuations in specific locations across the Earth. The government approaches Reed to build a sensor to track the movements of the phenomenon, and he secretly complies, hiding the fact that he has taken the contract from Sue to stop her from worrying.

The wedding begins, but in the midst of the ceremony, Reed’s sensor detects the phenomenon approaching New York, causing a massive power blackout across the city. The silver streak destroys the sensor while the Fantastic Four protect the crowd from a helicopter that has fallen from the sky, and the Human Torch then pursues it across the city. Catching up to it, he discovers that it is a silver humanoid riding a “surfboard” of liquid metal, and is then promptly seized by this “Silver Surfer” and dragged into the upper atmosphere. As his flame snuffs out, the Surfer drops him into free fall, but he manages to reactivate his powers enough to survive the fall. An examination by Reed discovers that Johnny’s exposure to the Surfer has caused his DNA to become destabilized, allowing him to switch powers with his teammates through physical contact. Tracing the energy of the Surfer – a cosmic engery similar to that which gave the team their powers – Reed discovers that the series of planets that the alien has visited have all been utterly destroyed.

The film received mixed critics but as a fan of marvel comics, i surely would not miss it pour aucune raison au monde when it come to our shores.

Rainy Saturday!

Saturday, June 9th, 2007

Nasty Saturday!! It rained all day long. Not a day to put nose outside. Funny thing today! There was a power cut yesterday, and as a result one server was down. The server happens to be in the boss’s wife office. The wife happens not to work on Saturdays. I took no attention to what is happening around as i do not often work on the server. Calls came reporting on the problem. Busy like i am, i told my colleagues to inform the boss. Shortly after, my boss came up to me and said that someone will come up with the keys and if i could reset the server. He continued saying that i must ensure that everything is ok since he will be working on the server tomorrow. I replied ok.

The person concerned called in with the keys at twelve. i promptly reset the server and asked those who use the system whether they have access. Having got a positive reply, i continued with my work.Two minutes before the 1230, my boss cropped in and asked if everything is ok.  I replied positively and continued that should there be a power cut, he will be needing to reset the server thus removing the blame on me should there be a problem later and thus avoiding him to call me on a sunday. He smiled (think he drank yesterday, because when he drank he always got that euphoric smile).
I showed him how to do it, and he left…

nasty friday!

Saturday, June 9th, 2007

What a nasty Friday! I am now alone working in the accounts department. Yeah! At last, me alone and with all the workloads. I got a compliment recently that i am doing to get depressed. I am actually performing the work of 3 persons. What a hercules you will say!!! Shit!! i am not outperforming. On the contrary, i am slow pacing. Things my boss tells me to do, i report to him in 3 hours or never at all. And when he came to me, i took the face of someone who is really tired with my desk table full of papers. His wife told me whether i can cope with all the workloads. I am speechless!!! What can i say? Yeah!! I can, and that I am a superman. She told me that her husband is actively looking for someone who can assist me. The following profile is required:

1. Good education;

2. Good mentality;

And.. that’s it. Like if all the previous workers did not suit the profile. Well, it will take some time before the rare pearl actually shows up. So in the meantime, i will be working alone for some 3 months minimum. If i am lucky, i will get my assistant in one year’s time. I am acutely aware of the lapse time between what  the boss says and the actual reality… So i am down to earth with no real impression that he is doing something.
Facts are as follows:

1. Statements of debtors not yet printed (put priority on that because cash flow is not very good);
2. My pc failed. Think the board has “briller”. On Monday to phone the technician to take my pc to the lab, and hopefully if it is not serious, to add additional ram;

3. Creditors which already need to be paid are still unpaid. Cheques are not prepared as yet. Prepare myself on Monday for angry calls and retaliation from creditors;
4. Batches of invoices and files to check;

5. Filing need to be done;

6. My cash box is empty.Need to replenish on Monday;

7. Need to input all purchases for the month of May and at the same time purchases for June;

8. Prepare VAT return for May;

9. Pay cell phones bills as some will be due shortly.;

10. Oh yeah! Completely forgotten. We are returning to manual invoicing. As such i need to input all the invoices manually into the accounting system at least figures for debtors and sales. To remember to input on a weekly basis starting next week.

Well that was my load list. Not much you would say. The preparation of payments to creditors took me at least a whole day, with all the disruptions around.

So if i do not get a depression and shout around, maybe i would be still blogging around.

Insomnia!

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

It’s one thirty in the morning and it is getting very early. I could not sleep so drop a couple of words here and there, till the sleep takes over. Budget speech will be delivered in some ten to twelve days’ time. In the meantime, while the minister of finance is busy preparing his dossier, our PM went to Hull to meet investors. Well in brief, he does not guarantee sunshine when they will be coming to dodoland, but what he did guarantee was the turquoise sea and the warm welcome of we folks (dixit Navin). Needless to say, there was broad coverage of his intervention at each of his moves.
Heard on the waves that the university of Hull will be offering three scholarships to Mauritius. Do not have all the details. Only grabbed that one will be for post graduate studies. I understand our PM graduated from Hull. Can this be a coincidence?

Winter, brrr….!

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

Brrrr!! Feeling cold right now. Winds are howling outside and it seems that winter is in full fledged. Has to put on some pullover over t shirt. And to close the windows and sipped a hot cup of coffee over a nice movie. But what to watch??? No new movies on the local channels. So better go to bed and fer la grasse matinee tomorrow. Pirates of the Caribbeans 3 reached our shores last wkend and was aired in theatre. “La cite interdite” was also on projection along with the secret of Terabithia. Think will try to get hold of the latter.

Ok better get dodo. A long day awaits me tomorrow..
